Adidas: From Track Shoes to megabrand
The iconic three stripes. Known and loved across the globe. You'll be hard-pressed to find anyone who hasn't had a pair of adidas shoes at one point or another in their life. With humble beginnings in a kitchen in 1920s Germany, the brand is synonymous with top athletes, hip hop stars and everyone in between!

History of the brand
Beginning life in 1920s Germany, Adidas was founded by Adolph (Adi) Dassler in his mother's kitchen. The son of a cobbler started creating track shoes for athletes which at the time, featured innovative designs which made them light, long lasting and reliable for German athletes.
Joined by his brother Rudi in the mid 20s, Adidas became the go to brand in Germany for track and field events. But it wasn't until the 1936 Berlin Olympics that the brand really exploded onto the international stage, with American sprinter and long jumper Jesse Owens winning 4 gold medals, all whilst wearing a pair of Adidas shoes.
After this, every athlete wanted a pair of Adidas and the only thing that slowed the brothers down was the outbreak of WW2.
Following the war, the brothers parted ways and Adi went on to diversify the product range on offer, incorporating more casualwear which developed Adidas into the megabrand it is known as today.

Despite founding Adidas together, Adi and Rudi ended up falling out during WW2 with one brother accusing the other of being a traitor to Germany
Rudi would later go on to start a rival sportswear brand, Puma! They never did reconcile their differences, but we're not picking sides...

Adidas started life as a brand for athletes, and despite diversifying into casualwear to brand stays committed to kitting out top athletes and teams across the globe. The brand even owns a 8% share in Bayern Munich FC.
